TECHNICAL SUPPORT TO THE CONSTITUTIONAL BENCH

Technical Support to the Constitutional Bench

The Nepal Law Society – with the support from The Asia Foundation (TAF) – has been working since last eight years to support strengthening of the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court – which has the major function of providing legal solutions to the disputes among the federal, province and local level in order to facilitate the operation of federalism as envisaged by the Constitution.

In this connection, the NLS has been working in two fronts – one, the publication of peer-reviewed reports regarding the decisions of the Constitutional Bench, and two, the facilitation of informal interactions/dialogue among justices and key stakeholders.

Recently, the NLS and the Supreme Court jointly organized an interaction on March 27, 2024 among the justices of the Supreme Court including members of Constitutional Bench and senior court officials. The main purpose of the interaction program was to discuss the functions of the Constitutional Bench, its achievements and rooms for the further improvement.

Following these interventions, the court officials have said that there has been improvement in uniformity, time management and decision writing.

All activities conducted with the concerned stakeholders were successful due to the wonderful leadership of the Past Chairperson of NLS Mr. Tirtha Man Sakya."
